Toby Coles

Toby started playing the trumpet aged 6. He was Head Chorister at Southwell Minster in Nottinghamshire and went on to win a music scholarship to Oundle School. After studying with Ray Allen, John Wallace and Steve Waterman, he graduated from The Royal Academy Of Music in 1997. Orchestrally he has worked with The Royal Opera House, The Halle, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, London Sinfonietta and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also toured with London Brass and recorded with The Fine Arts Brass Ensemble. He has also headlined the Brecon Jazz Festival with Roberta Pla's Salsa band, performed with Michael Buble and played at the Proms with Jamie Cullum and The Heritage Orchestra. He has also played regularly with The Piccadilly Dance Orchestra and The John Wilson Big Band. He has worked with many Pop bands including Mika, Caro Emerald, Pussy Cat Dolls, The Guillimots and The Killers. He has worked predominantly in London's WestEnd holding chairs in many productions including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Evita, Lord Of The Rings, Spamalot, Sister Act, Passion, Wizard Of Oz and is currently in the band for the RSC's production of Matilda. Most recently he was featured on screen in the BBC production of South Riding and could also be heard on BBC4's production of We'll Take Manhattan.
