The observation and celebration of gypsy culture has been very prolific on UK television screens in recent years. Ironically, the background and incidental music associated with these programmes borrows heavily from the gypsy brass bands of Eastern Europe, particularly from the Balkan region. This Big Fat Gypsy Dance seeks to capture the musical flavour and attitude of this style of music – party on !

Description

PARP ! - a collection of thirty original compositions.

Set at a Junior Band level, PARP ! follows a flexi scoring formula of mixed brass players; requiring a minimum of 4 brass players - but the maximum number is endless.

The pieces are predominantly groove based and seek to take participants through a wide range of styles and musical identities.

In the instance of using just four brass players, playing just the top part in each case will provide a cohesive performance.

“This is joyous stuff; an intelligent, coherent crossover disc, performed with phenomenal punch. Brilliantly recorded too – what’s the point of assembling a collective of virtuoso brass players if they can’t make your ears bleed ?”

Graham Rickson

“The arrangements all sound fresh, and the playing is beyond reproach.”

“The end result, is a resounding success. This is not a commercial CD, this is education, passion and self belief written in the sleeve notes”

Richard Walker

"Who but the best professionals could live up to this ?... Everything about this disc is to be recommended, the recording is crystal clear and the playing and arranging of the first water”
