Welcome to the new Superbrass Music Publishing initiative - First Access Brass (FAB) The aim of this particular resource is to give ‘First Access’ beginner brass players the opportunity to participate in meaningful rehearsals and performances alongside a more experienced brass ensemble, comprising more able and senior students or even professional musicians. The educational benefits and inspiration an experience such as this provides is immeasurable. With a strong rhythmic slant, each piece seeks to capture a particular style or mood, whilst still being accessible to beginner students and extremely fun to play. Crucially, each title began life exclusively as a ‘First Access’ melody or riff, with the more ‘senior’ ensemble material being added to supplement this. Each piece comprises parts in all transpositions for the more experienced brass quintet accompanied by an essential drum kit, alongside an across-the-board line-up of beginner parts for all brass instruments in all varieties of transpositions

Description

Pacey music with attitude, a deliberate clash of two different musical cultures.

“The arrangements all sound fresh, and the playing is beyond reproach.”

Dr. Gavin Dixon
Classical CD Reviews

“This intriguing "water-borne" voyage runs the gamut from more classically-tinged interpretations to straight-ahead and improvised jazz. Along that journey we are treated to a highly inspired and masterfully presented performance.”

Nicholas F. Mondello
Allaboutjazz.com

“One of the finest brass ensemble recordings that has ever come my way.”

Rodney Newton
Composer, arranger and music journalist

“Stunning playing all round and a perfect 'snapshot' of the incredibly high standards of performance in brass playing in London today."

Peter Bassano
Head of Brass Royal College of Music (retired)

“Under the Spell of Spain defies any category other than: superb.”

Nicholas F. Mondello
Allaboutjazz.com

“This is joyous stuff; an intelligent, coherent crossover disc, performed with phenomenal punch. Brilliantly recorded too – what’s the point of assembling a collective of virtuoso brass players if they can’t make your ears bleed ?”
