Description

The song Sing has pop and R&B influences and was inspired by Justin Timberlake. It was a departure from the folk rock sound Sheeran became known for on his previous album. The song received critical acclaim upon release; music critics complimented Sheeran's change of sound. Time magazine gave the song a very positive review, saying that it is "more of a departure” and The Guardian said "while Pharrell's influence is writ large, there's enough of Sheeran there to prevent it coming across as horrible pastiche." The music video was originally released exclusively on Sheeran's Facebook page in May 2014, and later that month on Vevo and YouTube. It follows a puppet caricature of Sheeran on a night out, during which he gets drunk, steals a microphone and sings karaoke, followed by him going to a club and picks up Sheeran and Pharrell from a studio in his truck. Sheeran and Pharrell received the Best Male Video at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards for this video. Edward Christopher Sheeran MBE is an English singer-songwriter. Born in Halifax, West Yorkshire and raised in Framlingham, Suffolk, he began writing songs around the age of eleven. In early 2011, Sheeran independently released the extended play, No. 5 Collaborations Project. He signed with Asylum Records the same year. Sheeran's debut album, + (pronounced "plus"), was released in September 2011 and topped the UK Albums Chart. It contained his first hit single "The A Team". In 2012, Sheeran won the Brit Awards for Best British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act. Sheeran's second studio album, × (pronounced "multiply"), topped charts around the world upon its release in June 2014. It was named the second-best-selling album worldwide of 2015. In the same year, × won Album of the Year at the 2015 Brit Awards, and he received the Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors. A single from ×, "Thinking Out Loud", earned him the 2016 Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. Sheeran has sold more than 150 million records worldwide, making him one of the world's best-selling music artists. Two of his albums are in the list of the best-selling albums in UK chart history
