This piece seeks to imitate a piece of Klezmer music. One particular characteristic of a Klezmer song or dance is where the music starts slow and gradually speeds up into something of a frenzy. In a typical Klezmer band the melody would be carried by either a Clarinet or Violin (Fiddle) hence Fiddley Fum.

Description

PARP ! - a collection of thirty original compositions.

Set at a Junior Band level, PARP ! follows a flexi scoring formula of mixed brass players; requiring a minimum of 4 brass players - but the maximum number is endless.

The pieces are predominantly groove based and seek to take participants through a wide range of styles and musical identities.

In the instance of using just four brass players, playing just the top part in each case will provide a cohesive performance.

“This is joyous stuff; an intelligent, coherent crossover disc, performed with phenomenal punch. Brilliantly recorded too – what’s the point of assembling a collective of virtuoso brass players if they can’t make your ears bleed ?”

Graham Rickson

“This is absolutely one of the finest and most creative brass ensembles in the world."

Marc Dickman
University of South Florida writing in the International Trombone Association Journal

“An absorbing selection of refined choices and inspirational highlights. Marvellous."

Keith Ames
The Musician (MU)

“This intriguing "water-borne" voyage runs the gamut from more classically-tinged interpretations to straight-ahead and improvised jazz. Along that journey we are treated to a highly inspired and masterfully presented performance.”

“Simply some of the most exciting and triumphant brass playing I have ever heard!”

It is scintillatingly good. Superbrass more than live up to their name.”
