Set at a Junior Band level, PARP ! follows a flexi scoring formula of mixed brass players; requiring a minimum of 4 brass players - but the maximum number is endless. The pieces are predominantly groove based and seek to take participants through a wide range of styles and musical identities. In the instance of using just four brass players, playing just the top part in each case will provide a cohesive performance.

  • Part 1 – Trumpet / Cornet in Bb
  • Part 2 – Trumpet / Cornet in Bb
  • Part 3 – Horn in Eb or F / Trombone / Baritone / Euphonium

  • (8va options for Bass Trombone & Tuba)

Description

The Jungle Sound was something that was attributed to certain jazz styles in the1920s (Duke Ellington) and the 1930s (Benny Goodman) and was based around the use of the tom-toms as an integral component of the drum kit. Perhaps the most iconic example of such a piece called Sing, Sing, Sing by the Benny Goodman Orchestra featuring Gene Krupa on Drums.

“This is absolutely one of the finest and most creative brass ensembles in the world."

Marc Dickman
University of South Florida writing in the International Trombone Association Journal

“This intriguing "water-borne" voyage runs the gamut from more classically-tinged interpretations to straight-ahead and improvised jazz. Along that journey we are treated to a highly inspired and masterfully presented performance.”

Nicholas F. Mondello

“The entire programme can be likened to a sumptuous feast, with each track having its own highly delectable and thoroughly satisfying flavour. The CD is surely compulsive listening for all brass and percussion enthusiasts.”

C Brian Buckley

"The more I listen to this album the more I find to enjoy and the more impressed I am. The wealth of talent on display in terms of composing, performing, recording and producing is fantastic"

Kevin Morgan
The British Trombone Society

“This is joyous stuff; an intelligent, coherent crossover disc, performed with phenomenal punch. Brilliantly recorded too – what’s the point of assembling a collective of virtuoso brass players if they can’t make your ears bleed ?”

Graham Rickson

“The CD is just fabulous. The ensemble playing is fantastic; the tightness of the ensemble is amazing; the balance and dynamics are just brilliant.”
